Allagash Brewing Company Midnight Brett Ale

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Allagash Brewing Company Midnight Brett Ale. I purchased this bottle at Royal Liquors (here) in San Jose.

From the Allagash Brewing Company website: “Midnight brett is chocolate brown in color, brewed with 2-Row, midnight wheat, raw wheat and rye malt. It was hopped with a blend of Perle, Glacier and Simcoe hops, then fermented with our house strain of Brettanomyces in stainless tanks.
The finished beer has the aroma and flavor of fresh berries, sour cherries and a slight roasted character. The finish is pleasantly tart and fruity, making this beer very drinkable.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a dark reddish brown with a large tan head and excellent lacing.
Aroma: Dark roasted and bready malts, dark fruits, chocolate, brown sugar, slight banana and clove.
Taste: Sour dark fruits, earthy Brett, roasted and bready malts, chocolate, slight caramel, wheat, banana and clove.
Overall: Smooth and solid, Allagash Brewing Company Midnight Brett Ale is a delicious dark sour. This 7.3% ABV is a one to try for fans of the style.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
