Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Highland Brewing Company
Thunderstruck Coffee Porter.
From the Highland Brewing Company website:
“This robust porter has a full body with some hints of chocolate from the
Chocolate Malt and Midnight Wheat. The mild hop aroma showcases the roasted
flavors and subtle fruit and spice notes of the artisan fair-trade, organic
coffee, roasted in the neighboring town of Black Mountain at Dynamite Roasting Company.
Hike with us
Thunderstruck, like our other seasonals, is named for a
feature of the Southern Appalachian landscape. Please join us on a seasonal,
naturalist-guided hike,
with our guide from Southern Appalachian
Highlands Conservancy (SAHC).”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
black with red highlights, a large tan head and great lacing.
Aroma: Roasted
coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and a slight vanilla bean aroma.
Taste: Roasted
malts, espresso, dark chocolate, toffee and a slight dark fruit presence.
Overall: A solid
Coffee Porter, Highland Brewing Company Thunderstruck Coffee Porter
delivered. This 5.8% ABV offering has a
mild coffee bitterness that comes with the style and I completely enjoyed it.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
