Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Sierra Nevada Brewing Company
Narwhal Imperial Stout.
From the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company website:
“A malt-forward monster, highlighting the depths of malt flavor.
Narwhal Imperial Stout is inspired by the mysterious
creature that thrives in the deepest fathoms of the frigid Arctic Ocean.
Featuring incredible depth of malt flavor, rich with notes of espresso, baker’s
cocoa, roasted grain and a light hint of smoke, Narwhal is a massive
malt-forward monster. Aggressive but refined with a velvety smooth body and
decadent finish, Narwhal will age in the bottle for years to come.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours black as pitch with a huge tan head.
Aroma: Dark chocolate, caramel, dark fruits and roasted
coffee. Huge aroma!
Taste: Rich dark malts, very dark bitter chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, anise and charred wood.
Overall: Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Narwhal Imperial
Stout is enormous and complex. At 10.2%
ABV the alcohol is well hidden. Looks
like I’ll need to pick s’more up. This
one is another winning beer from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
