Hangar 24 Craft Brewery Alt-Bier

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Hangar 24 Craft Brewery Alt-Bier.

From the Hangar 24 Craft Brewery website: “Caramel, Toasty, and Clean. This red ale is our unique version of a northern German Alt-Bier. Enjoy silky caramel smoothness, followed by toasty, bready flavors and finished with a hint of chocolate roast.

These flavors all come through in the aroma and combine in a truly unique, very clean, complex, Alt-Bier.

Additional Information:

Our Alt-Bier is very traditional except for one twist, chocolate roasted malt. We decided to add the chocolate malt to add a little more complexity to the beer and for a perceived dryness that helps to balance the caramel malty flavor.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a dark and clear copper brown with a cream colored head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Caramel, chocolate and toasted malts, toffee, brown sugar and a slight hop presence.
Taste: Toasted malts followed closely by sweet caramel and chocolate malts.  Nutty and sweet with a light hop bite. Incredible balance.
Overall: Sweet, malty and supremely delicious, Hangar 24 Craft Brewery Alt-Bier is sensational! At 6% ABV this may not be as sessionable as some would like, but I could see knocking down a few of these with ease.  Another winner from Hangar 24 Craft Brewery and Ben Cook. I’m looking forward to seeing this in the Bay Area soon!

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
