Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is North Coast Brewing Company Le
Merle Saison/Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale.
From the North Coast Brewing Company website: “Le Merle
is a rustic ale, pale in color, inspired by the rich brewing traditions of the
Flanders region. Abundant hops and a Belgian yeast strain contribute exotic
aromas of tropical fruit.
For all she has contributed since the brewery's founding,
North Coast Brewing is pleased to honor our Merle, Brewmaster Mark Ruedrich's
wife, with Le Merle (the Blackbird), a subtle sophisticated Belgian-style
Saison beer.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a cloudy golden color with a large white head and excellent lacing.
Aroma: Citrus,
clove, pineapple, Belgian yeast funk, pepper, wheat, light malt and grass.
Taste: Tart and
yeasty up front, sweet and biscuit malts, wheat, banana, citrus, pineapple and
pepper.
Overall: Crisp,
light and flavorful, North Coast Brewing Company Le Merle Saison/Belgian Style
Farmhouse Ale shouldn’t be missed if you are a fan of the style. At 7.9% ABV this excellent Saison is one I
would recommend to those who have yet to try one. North Coast Brewing Company is known for
making exceptional beer and Le Merle is yet another fantastic offering from
this top notch brewery.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
