Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is The Willow’s Market Dark Matter
Imperial Stout - brewed by Strike Brewing Company. If you haven’t yet been to Willow’s Market in
Menlo Park, CA you really should. With
well over 1,000 craft beers you’d be hard pressed to find a better selection. Willow’s Market has two beers brewed for them
locally – Dark Matter Imperial Stout and a Pale Ale. Check them out (here).
Commercial description (from the bottle): “A rich, dark,
creamy, full-bodied ale whose distinctive color and flavors are derived from
the generous portions of roasted malts added.
Very slightly hopped so the notes of deep coffee and chocolate can shine
through, making for a wonderful tasting experience. Through the jet black color of Dark Matter,
you can catch a glimpse into the deepest, darkest reaches of space.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours as black as deep space with a nice tan head and
sticky lacing.
Aroma: Roasted
malts, coffee and chocolate. Smells great!
Taste: Roasted
malts, chocolate, toffee and coffee with a slight bitterness at the
finish. Wow...THIS beer is REALLY GOOD!
Overall: Creamy
and damn tasty, The Willow’s Market Dark Matter Imperial Stout - brewed by
Strike Brewing Company is excellent. At
9% ABV this beer is highly drinkable. I
recommend heading over to The Willow’s Market to pick up a bottle of Dark
Matter and to pick up a ton of other great craft beers.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
