Clown Shoes Muffin Top Belgian-style Tripel IPA

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Clown Shoes Muffin Top Belgian-style Tripel IPA. Clown Shoes beers are popping up EVERYWHERE and I had heard a lot of good things about Muffin Top so I figured I’d pick up a 22 (strictly for review purposes).

From the Clown Shoes Beer website: “Hoppy Belgian-Style Tripel – ABV 10% Muffin Top combines the attributes of a Belgian Tripel with a huge burst of American hops. Intense flavors from the Belgian yeast, reminiscent of candied fruits, mix with the hop bitterness and sweet orange peel to create a unique take on a Belgian-Style ale.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a burnt orange color with a large off-white head nice lacing.
Aroma: Belgian yeast, sweet malts, banana, clove, spice, citrus and tropical hops. Juicy!
Taste: Much like the aroma, but the citrus, tropical and grapefruit hop bitterness is upfront followed by a heap of Belgian yeast, sweet malts, banana, clove and spice.
Overall: A tad more on the Belgian end then the IPA end, Clown Shoes Muffin Top Belgian-style Tripel IPA was enjoyable.  I am finding myself more agreeable to the idea of the style and this 10% ABV offering was review worthy.  As I’ve said before, I don’t review beers I don’t care for so since you’re reading this…I liked it.  If you’re a fan of the style, check it out.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
