Bear Republic Brewing Company Black Racer IPA

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Bear Republic Brewing Company Black Racer IPA. Bear Republic Brewing Company is one that I know I can count on for fantastic beers and since I hadn’t reviewed their Black Racer IPA I was excited to try and review this.  Bear Republic is a true NorCal gem.

From the Bear Republic Brewing Company website: “Black Racer™ is an aggressively hopped ale brewed to a style pioneered in the Pacific Northwest known as Cascadian IPA or Black IPA. Essentially an India Pale Ale with additional crystal malt and roasted malts for layered flavors with very little roast character relative to its dark color.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours dark brown, nearly black with red highlights, an excellent light tan head and sticky lacing.
Aroma: Citrus pine and tropical hop scents, roasted grains, chocolate and coffee.
Taste: Pine, orange and grapefruit hop bitterness with a touch of roasted and chocolate malt flavor and even less of a coffee presence. Sweet malt aftertaste and perhaps a little smoke.
Overall: Roasty and hoppy, Bear Republic Brewing Company Black Racer IPA is a fine beer.  Weighing in at 8.1% ABV I’d recommend this beer to people who enjoy the style. I enjoyed it.

Cheers!
