Brewery Ommegang Abbey Ale

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Brewery Ommegang Abbey Ale.

From the Brewery Ommegang website: “Ale with Spices: Licorice Root, Star Anise, Sweet Orange Peel, Coriander, Cumin. Rich, fruity and aromatic Burgandian brew.  Abbey Ale was made to celebrate the many layers to life.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance:  Pours copper brown with a huge off-white head and sticky lacing.
Aroma: Sweet caramel and chocolate malt, dark fruit, spices, Belgian yeast and candi sugar.
Taste: Raisins, sweet caramel, roasted and chocolate malts, dark fruits, Belgian yeast, candi sugar with a slight spice and booziness.
Overall: Well balanced and enjoyable, Brewery Ommegang Abbey Ale is a solid Dubbel Ale.  So far I’ve liked every beer of theirs I’ve tried and this 8.5% ABV offering is no exception. Most definitely worth picking up!

Cheers!
