Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Oak Creek Brewing Company Nut
Brown Ale. I had the chance to visit Oak Creek Brewing Company back in April
last year (I tried their “Seven Dwarves” sampler) and found their beers to be
very good. On my recent trip to Phoenix
I was glad to see this bottle in the shop so I could take it home…strictly for
review purposes.
From the Oak Creek Brewing Company website: “Winner of
both the Gold and Bronze Medal in the North American Brewers' Association
competition. This northern Arizona favorite has a consistent nutty flavor with
just a hint of spice in its depths. A slowly emerging bitterness crops up along
the way and is unobtrusively incorporated into the smooth flow. It finishes
with a gentle nuttiness and spiciness.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a transparent dark brown with a thin
khaki colored head and decent lacing.
Aroma: Toasted
malt, bittersweet chocolate and roasted nuts.
Taste: Roasted
and chocolate malts, roasted nuts (possibly hazelnut), toffee and a touch of
spicy hops. Sweet, nutty and balanced.
Overall: Smooth
and highly drinkable, Oak Creek Brewing Company Nut Brown Ale is a nice brown
ale with strong nutty and malty flavors.
At 5.5% ABV this a beer I’d gladly have a few of if they were available
locally. If you find yourself in Arizona
or more specifically Sedona check ‘em out.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
