Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Jester King Craft Brewery
Farmhouse Black Metal English Imperial Stout.
From the Jester King Craft Brewery website: “English
Imperial Stout meets the Franco-Belgian Farmhouse tradition in this dry,
drinkable beer; Pitch black in color with notes of chocolate, roasted and black
malts coupled with earthy, peppery and floral farmhouse esters.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours pitch black with a frothy cocoa colored
head and patchy lacing.
Aroma: Roasted
black malts, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, anise and a
farmhouse yeast funk.
Taste: Damn! Dark
bitter chocolate, molasses, roasted coffee, licorice, dark fruits, vanilla, roasted
malt with a slight farmhouse yeast presence in the finish.
Overall: Big and
bold, Jester King Craft Brewery Farmhouse Black Metal English Imperial Stout is
a great mix of an Imperial Stout and a Farmhouse Ale. Not as funky as some Farmhouse Ales I’ve had
this 9% ABV beast is nice sippin’. Maybe
not an everyday beer for me, but something I’d certainly pick up again when my
heart feels a little darker and the nights are a little colder.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
