Cigar City Brewing Tocobaga Red Ale

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Cigar City Brewing Tocobaga Red Ale. This is another LetsPour acquisition since I didn’t get a chance to try or review this beer while in Tampa, FL.

From the Cigar City Brewing website: "The Tocobaga lived off the bounty of Tampa Bay hundreds of years before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500’s. They were potters, tool makers and the only Florida natives to grow maize. The large platform mounds they built are still with us today, with one of the largest found near Old Tampa Bay in Safety Harbor, Florida.
Climb to the top, and with a little imagination, you can see Tampa Bay as they did."
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours amber with a foamy off-white head and great lacing.
Aroma: Sweet caramel, toasted malts, citrus and pine hops.
Taste: Hoppy upfront with citrus and pine followed by caramel malt sweetness and a toasted malt breadiness.
Overall: Simply delicious, Cigar City Brewing Tocobaga Red Ale is a hoppy red beast that I highly recommend.  At 7.2% ABV the alcohol is well hidden which makes this a tad bit dangerous to session.  You’ll want to, trust me.  Again, I wish they were readily available here in NorCal.  The LetsPour premium for these beers is steep, but dare I say…worth it.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
