Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Deschutes Brewery Black Butte
Porter.
From the Deschutes Brewery website: “With
a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a
radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive
chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense
complex flavors.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a dark brown, nearly black with a large
tan head and sticky lacing.
Aroma: Roasted and dark malts, chocolate, coffee and
vanilla.
Taste: Rich roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, and a gentle
hop presence. Terrific!
Overall: Well balanced and smooth, Deschutes Brewery’s Black
Butte Porter is incredibly drinkable and enjoyable. At 5.2% ABV I usually intend on drinking a
few of them. This is one Porter that you’ll
find in my beer fridge year round.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
