Speakeasy Ales & Lagers Vendetta IPA

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Speakeasy Ales & Lagers Vendetta IPA.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION: “Standing face to face, an enduring rivalry reaches the breaking point. Vendetta IPA is the taste of sweet revenge. Aggressively bitter with a cutthroat convergence of citrus and aromatic hops, Vendetta won’t soon be forgotten. As the next in our Bootlegger Limited Series, we’re releasing an IPA with a vengeance. Legit since 1997, Speakeasy Ales & Lagers operates in the San Francisco district once known as Butchertown.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a dark orange with a thick, frothy off-white head and sticky lacing.
Aroma: Grapefruit, pine, and citrus hops complimented by biscuit and sweet caramel malts.
Taste: Citrus, grapefruit and tropical hops at the start balanced nicely with sweet caramel malts.  Pine and floral hops and biscuit malts in the finish. A bit more malt than what I typically drink, but I like it a lot.
Overall: Well-crafted and easy to drink, is Speakeasy Ales & Lagers Vendetta IPA is probably my favorite offering so far from this brewery.  I had a chance to drink it on tap at Hop Yard San Ramon and I completely enjoyed it.  At 7.6% ABV it is very nicely crafted.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
