Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Deschutes Brewery - Great Lakes
Brewing Co. Class of '88 Imperial Smoked Porter.
From the Deschutes Brewery website:
“We've teamed up with another porter brewmaster — Great Lakes Brewing Co.of
the famed Edmund Fitzgerald Porter — to create a very special porter for the
Class of '88.
This Imperial Smoked Porter is brewed with both roasted and
smoked malt that delivers not only a subtle smoky flavor but a rich, chocolaty
aroma. Enjoy every layer of porter craftsmanship from this limited-run
collaboration.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
very dark brown, nearly black with a small mocha colored head and spotty lacing.
Aroma: Smoke
scent is WAY up front with touches of chocolate, toffee and caramel in the
background.
Taste: Roasted
and smokey malts up front with slight chocolate malts in there.
Overall: I’m glad
I got to try the Deschutes Brewery - Great Lakes Brewing Co. Class of '88
Imperial Smoked Porter. The 9.1% ABV
hits at the end…not boozy at all.
Although this isn’t something I’d seek out I’d certainly recommend this
to those who enjoy smoked or Rauchbiers.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
