Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Yoho Brewing Company Aooni IPA. I
picked up this can at The Tahoe Mountain Brewing Artisanal Beer Bottle Shop in
Truckee, CA (here).
Commercial description: “Touted as a “taste of
magic,” Aooni (“blue demon” in Japanese) was named after the famous
mythical beings of Japanese folklore. A classic IPA with a light copper body.
Well balanced, malty, with slightly fruity aromas and fine piney hop bitterness
at the front.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a cloudy orange/amber with a large white head and sticky lacing.
Aroma: Citrus,
pine, floral and spicy hops mixed with bready and caramel malts.
Taste: Caramel
malts are upfront with biscuit malts following, citrus, grassy pine and spicy
hops bringing a nice balance.
Overall: More of
an English IPA than a West Coast or American IPA, Yoho Brewing Company Aooni
IPA was well worth a try. This 7% ABV
offering is good. I would certainly
drink again.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
