Drake's Brewing Company Hefeweizen

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Drake's Brewing Company Hefeweizen.

From the Drake's Brewing website: “An unfiltered, Bavarian style wheat beer. We incorporate 40% wheat malt and 60% 2-row malt with floral Vanguard hops. Then, a Bavarian hefeweizen yeast strain imparts the traditional and distinctive aromas of banana and clove. True to our West Coast style, this beer finishes dry, making it easy to enjoy another pint.

THE HEFE STORY:
When Drake’s set out to make our Hefe, we knew we wanted to do right by this classic Bavarian style wheat beer with its refreshing light citrus from malted wheat and aromas of banana and clove derived from the German yeast strain. We brought in a true Hefeweizen yeast for our Hefe, but kept the fermentation temperatures slightly lower than those used in Bavaria. The result? Our Hefe is more in line with the tastes of West Coast drinkers with its refreshing and relatively dry finish and a subtle accent of the traditional flavors of banana and clove.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange color with a nice white head and great lacing.
Aroma: Banana, clove, citrus, wheat malt sweetness and yeast.
Taste: Citrus, banana, clove, wheat and bready malts and hints of yeast.
Overall: Light and crisp, Drake's Brewing Company Hefeweizen is nice.  At 4.5% ABV this is easy drinking and enjoyable.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
