Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Gigantic Brewing Company Pipewrench
Gin Barrel Aged IPA. I picked this bottle up at The Wine Club in San Jose
(here). They have a small craft beer
section, but they have an incredible selection. If you're anywhere near
The Wine Club go visit them and tell 'em Mark from NorCal Beer Blog sent you!
From the Gigantic Brewing Company website: “Our Gigantic
IPA aged in Ransom Old
Tom Gin barrels for 3 months. Botanicals from the gin meld perfectly with
citrusy hops and subtle wood in an incredibly complex beer.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a hazy dark orange with a fluffy off-white head and soapy lacing.
Aroma: Juniper,
citrus, caramel, gin botanicals and barrel notes, pine and some tropical notes.
Taste: Juniper,
citrus, tropical, caramel, vanilla, gin botanicals, oak and a solid malt
backbone.
Overall: As a fan
of IPAs and gin I completely enjoyed Gigantic Brewing Company Pipewrench Gin
Barrel Aged IPA. This 8% ABV offering is
flavorful and delicious. I’ve picked this up a few times now so this is
certainly a repeat beverage for me.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
