Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet Black IPA

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet Black IPA.

From the Clown Shoes Beer website: “Hoppy Feet has been lovingly crafted by combining Premium malt with lots of Amarillo and Columbus Hops.  Grapefruit and Pine are balanced on the nose and on the palate by a nutty, dark chocolate, roasted backbone.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours black with a dense off-white head and spotty lacing.
Aroma: Roasted malts, dark chocolate, grapefruit, pine and a very light nutty scent.
Taste: Roasted malts, bitter dark chocolate, grapefruit and other citrus hop notes, pine, nuts and a slight charred aftertaste.
Overall: Complex and bitter, Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet Black IPA is nicely balanced.  Although I’m not a big Black IPA fan, this 7% ABV offering went down easily and reminded me of an over-hopped Stout I brewed once (which I enjoyed).  If you’re a fan of the style you should certainly check this one out.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
