AleSmith Brewing Company Olde Ale British-Style Ale MMXIV

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is AleSmith Brewing Company Olde Ale British-Style Ale MMXIV.

Commercial description: “Originally brewed in 2005 as the first in our annual Decadence series, AleSmith Old Ale follows the tradition of class British-style Old Ales. This rich, malt-forward ale showcases soft notes of currants and dried fruit along with complex dark sugars, all of which are balanced by a subtle bitterness derived from the addition of traditional English hops. AleSmith Old Ale is ready to be enjoyed now or it can be aged for upwards of twenty years to further enhance its amazing depth of flavor. A hearty ale designed to please Bacchus himself!”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a dark copper color with a large cream colored head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Dark fruits, molasses, spice, malty, nutty and a touch boozy.
Taste: Caramel, molasses, dark fruits, bready malts and boozy.
Overall: Sweet and smooth, AleSmith Brewing Company Olde Ale British-Style Ale MMXIV is a definite sipper.  This 11% ABV offering is thick, rich and BIG. I really enjoyed it.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
