Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Founders Brewing Dirty Bastard
Scotch Style Ale.
From the Founders Brewing website: “So good
it’s almost wrong. Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of
imported malts. Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a
malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude that a
beer named Dirty Bastard has to live up to. Ain’t for the wee lads.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a dark amber brown with a thin light tan head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Very sweet
with scents of caramel, chocolate, nutty, brown sugar, honey, toffee, toasted
bread and hints of dark fruits and smoke.
Taste: Sweet and similar
to the aroma with caramel, toffee, brown sugar, chocolate, roasted malts, dark
fruits, nutty and balanced well with a slight hop bitterness in the finish.
Overall: Big,
sweet and nicely strong, Founders Brewing Dirty Bastard Scotch Style Ale is delicious.
This 8.5% offering is smooth and something I wish I could get more of.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
