Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Cascade Brewing Strawberry
Northwest Sour Ale - Ale Aged in Oak Barrels with Strawberries.
From the Cascade Brewing website: “This NW
style sour ale is a crisp, refreshing wheat beer barrel aged for 12 months,
then aged on strawberries and vanilla for three more. Bright, sweet
strawberries and rich jam notes are noticed up front. A bright tartness and
berry sweetness intermingle on the palate, giving way to a light, sparkling
fresh berry tartness with hints of vanilla cream in the finish.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a hazy deep orange color with a thin white head and good lacing.
Aroma: Tart and
fruity strawberries, a little funky, sour and sweet.
Taste: Sour
upfront, funky, fruity, tart and subtly sweet strawberry flavors with hints of
wheat, oak and vanilla.
Overall: Tasty
and tart, Cascade Brewing Strawberry Northwest Sour Ale is a solid Sour Ale.
This 8% ABV offering is worth a try for fans of the style.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
