Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Black Diamond Brewing Company
Dubbel Down Belgian Style Dubbel Ale.
From the Black Diamond Brewing Company website: “The
emphasis for this beer is the maltiness sweetness and yeast byproducts. A large
percentage of Special B imparts raisin and plum-like characteristics, while the
aromatic provides a richer malt perception. The chocolate is for color, and the
Cara45 for more sweetness.
The Styrian Goldings provide an earthy base and fruitiness to the beer. Fermented in the upper 60s up to the lower 70s, bubble gum and slight fruity esters are made. The signature of this beer is the rich dark fruit flavors, but without being overly heavy. It’s perfect for a winter evening and a natural with a wide range of foods.”

Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a deep caramel color with an off-white head and spotty lacing.
Aroma: Caramel
and bready malts, dark fruit, candi sugar and a touch of Belgian yeast.
Taste: Sweet
caramel and bready malts, candi sugar, vanilla, dark fruit, Belgian yeast and a
slightly tart finish.
Overall: Smooth
and complex, Black Diamond Brewing Company Dubbel Down Belgian Style Dubbel Ale
is fruity and delicious. At 7.2% ABV it nicely
balanced and is certainly worth a try for fans of the style.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
