Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Deschutes Brewery Jubel 2010 -
Once In A Decade Ale - American Strong Ale. I picked up this bottle at Cork 'n
Bottle Liquors (here) in
Fremont, CA. They have a great selection of craft beer as well as a number of
beers on tap. Add Cork ‘n Bottle to your list of craft beer destinations.
From the Deschutes Brewery website: “Jubel
2010 is a deeply complex, intensely flavored take on our festive winter
seasonal, Jubelale.
Available on tap as Super Jubel at our pubs around the holidays, 2010 is only
our second bottling of this prized rarity originally released to mark the 2000
millennium.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a reddish brown color with a light tan head and light lacing.
Aroma: Dark
fruits, boozy, brown sugar, molasses, roasted malts, earthy and sweet smelling.
Taste: Brown
sugar, caramel, dark fruits – raisins mostly, molasses, roasted and nutty malts
and boozy.
Overall: A lot like
a barley wine (in my opinion), Deschutes Brewery Jubel 2010 is good. This 10% ABV offering is sweet and syrupy and
worth checking out if you’re a fan of the style. Check in with the owner at Cork 'n Bottle
Liquors if you want to try this one as I believe he has more in stock, but they’re
probably behind the counter.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
