Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Port Brewing Company Hot Rocks
Lager.
From the Port Brewing Company website: “Made in the German
“Stein Bier” tradition, this smooth robust dark lager is brewed with the
addition of glowing hot granite. A robust, dark lager brewed with glowing-hot
granite creating a “Super-Boil” that caramelizes the wort, resulting in giving
Hot Rocks its caramel and toffee notes. Hot Rocks is one of Port Brewing’s
early spring releases.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
dark chestnut brown with an off-white head and good lacing.
Aroma: Toasted
malts, biscuit, toffee, caramel, Lager yeast and slight grassy and citrus hop
notes.
Taste: Roasted
caramel, toasted malts, toffee, a touch of chocolate and coffee and slight
citrus hop bitterness and flavor.
Overall: A nice
array of flavors, Port Brewing Company Hot Rocks Lager is easy drinking and
enjoyable. Maltier than I expected and
with decent hop bitterness I could see drinking this 6.5% ABV offering again.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
