Clown Shoes Beer Billionaire English Style Barley Wine Ale

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Clown Shoes Beer Billionaire English Style Barley Wine Ale - Malt beverage Aged in Cognac Barrels. I picked up this bottle at Cork 'n Bottle Liquors (here) in Fremont, CA. They have a great selection of craft beer as well as a number of beers on tap.  Add Cork ‘n Bottle to your list of craft beer destinations.

Commercial description: “There are 1011 Billionaires on planet Earth as of this writing. We guess that most of you, like all of us here at Clown Shoes, aren’t even close to being on that list and yet dream every now and then, billionaire dreams. Our fourth anniversary beer was crafted to make you feel wealthy: a sweet, rich and heavily malted Barley Wine Ale brewed with English yeast then aged in European Cognac barrels.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a dark rust brown with a thin yellowish-cream colored head and spots of lacing.
Aroma: Sweet caramel, toffee, raisins, figs, plum, oak, cognac and slight chocolate, coffee and tobacco notes.
Taste: Caramel, toffee, raisins, brown sugar, plum, chocolate, oak, and slight cognac and tobacco.
Overall: Complex and tasty, Clown Shoes Beer Billionaire English Style Barley Wine Ale is excellent.  This 12% ABV offering isn’t overly boozy and drinks easy.  I’ve already purchased another bottle and am considering sourcing more (if I can).  Yeah, I really like this one!

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
