Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Boulevard Brewing Company
Saison-Brett – 2013.
From the Boulevard Brewing Company website: “Saison-Brett,
based on our very popular Tank 7, is assertively dry hopped, then bottle
conditioned with various yeasts, including Brettanomyces, a wild strain that
imparts a distinctive earthy quality. Though this farmhouse ale was given three
months of bottle age prior to release, further cellaring will continue to
enhance the “Brett” character, if that's what you're after.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a cloudy golden color with a HUGE fluffy white head and spotty lacing.
Aroma: Belgian
farmhouse yeast funk, lemon, apple, pear, grassy, earthy and peppery.
Taste: Bready
malts, citrus, Belgian farmhouse yeast funk, apple, pear, spicy, clove, sweet
and tart.
Overall: Hoppier
than a typical Saison, Boulevard Brewing Company Saison-Brett is
enjoyable. This 8.5% ABV Boulevard
offering is a must try for fans of the style. Balanced, funky and incredibly
drinkable!
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
