Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Founders Brewing Porter. I picked
up this bottle and several others while I was visiting Missouri. I picked this one up in St. Joseph, MO at a
place called Smooth Endings (here).
From the Founders Brewing website: “Pours silky
black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and
caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the
full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a
fighter.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
black with a thick tan head and great lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate,
sweet caramel, coffee and roasted malt.
Taste: Caramel,
roasted malts, chocolate, dark coffee, slight vanilla bean and hop bitterness.
Overall: An
exceptional Porter, Founders Brewing Porter is smooth, creamy and delicious. At
6.5% ABV and 45 IBUs this is one that I’d keep on hand if Founders distributed
to NorCal. I highly recommend this one!
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
