Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Lagunitas Brewing Company Night
Time Ale.
Commercial description: “There are two kinds. There is the
DayTime kind, which is bright and welcoming and then there is the NightTime
kind, which should never be confused with the DayTime. NightTime is dark and
deep and may take you to unexpected places, places that the DayTime cannot. But
then, the NightTime is not suited for ordinary life and ordinary tasks. In
fact, NightTime may be the answer for that sort of thing, meaning that those
sorts of things may never get done. Things take time in the NightTime, things
slow down and you can pause (you have to, actually) and investigate carefully
to find that level of objective detachment that is only possible under the
spell of the NightTime. Seek the Day, but fear not the NightTime.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
dark brown, nearly black with a huge light brown head and sticky lacing.
Aroma: Big citrus
and pine hops, super dank, roasted malts and a touch of chocolate.
Taste: Citrus and
pine hop bitterness is balanced exceptionally with roasted malts, chocolate and
a touch of coffee.
Overall: I don’t
seek out Black IPAs as a rule…I’m just not a fan of them, but I’ll buy anything
brewed by Lagunitas Brewing Company and I am VERY glad I did. Lagunitas Brewing Company Night Time Ale is
all kinds of awesome. This 8.2% ABV and
65 IBU beverage successfully pairs dark malts and hops in a way that left me
wanting more. And I plan to buy
more. Highly recommended!
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
