Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Clown Shoes Beer Crunkle Sam
American Barleywine Ale.
From the Clown Shoes Beer website: “We
brewed Crunkle Same, an American Barleywine Ale dry hopped with Citra hops, to
celebrate America. America, we love you: thank you for allowing Clown Shoes to
set off a few fireworks in the craft beer world.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a slightly murky dark amber with a dense off-white head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Citrus, pine,
caramel, brown sugar, toffee, raisins, toasted biscuits and plums.
Taste: Grapefruit,
raisins, toffee, caramel, orange peel, brown sugar, toasted and sweet malts,
plums and a bit of pine and citrus hop bitterness in the finish.
Overall: Sweet
and a touch boozy, Clown Shoes Beer Crunkle Sam American Barleywine Ale is
another solid offering. At 11% ABV it
has a nice malt/hop balance and is very drinkable. I’d drink it again.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
