Altamont Beer Works Hella Hoppy Double IPA

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Altamont Beer Works Hella Hoppy Double IPA.  I just happened to be in Livermore taking my son to a birthday party and decided to stop over and pick up a growlette of this excellent beer.

From the Altamont Beer Works website: ““Hella” is a NorCal thing, and when used, is a sure tip-off that you are from Northern California. A classic “West Coast” Double IPA; clean malt flavor, hop flavor forward, without all the bitterness. Hella hops are used throughout the process to bring you intense floral, citrus, and tropical notes. Smooth and clean, not bitter!”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a golden orange with a huge white head and great lacing.
Aroma: Citrus, floral and tropical hop notes and a solid biscuit malt backbone in the nose.
Taste: Flavor follows the nose with juicy citrus, tropical and floral hops balanced exceptionally with biscuit malt and a touch of pine. As advertised, smooth, clean and not bitter.
Overall: Over the top delicious, Altamont Beer Works Hella Hoppy Double IPA is an excellent Double IPA. At 9% ABV it was easy to drain the 32 ounce growlette and I was left wanting more.  Looks like I’ll be making the drive back to Livermore and I’ll be bringing my two growlettes this time. If you find yourself anywhere near Livermore check them out and tell them that Mark from NorCal Beer Blog sent you!

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
