Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Unita Brewing Company Anniversary
Barley Wine Ale. I picked up this bottle at Plaza Bottle Shop in San
Leandro (here).
From the Unita Brewing Company website: “Rich and complex,
this all malt barley wine exhibits hints of dried fruits, toffee and caramel
balanced by an abundance of American hops.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a dark mahogany brown with a nice tight off-white head and splotchy lacing.
Aroma: Sweet,
roasted and caramel malts, dark fruit, toffee and spicy hops.
Taste: Caramel,
sweet and roasted malts, dried dark fruits, toffee, brown sugar and a spicy hop
bitterness in the finish.
Overall: Smooth
and delicious, Unita Brewing Company Anniversary Barley Wine Ale is very
nice. This impressive 10.4% ABV offering
is certainly worth picking up. I plan to
do so again (and again).
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
