Hawai'i Nui Brewing Hapa Brown Ale

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Hawai'i Nui Brewing Hapa Brown Ale. This beer was carted all the way back from Hawai’i by a friend of mine strictly for my review purposes (and enjoyment).

From the Hawai'i Nui Brewing website: “Bold. Rich. Inviting. Hapa Ale, an island-style American Brown Ale, originated in the British style of blending different beers to create a single unique brew. The resulting beer is considered and American Brown Ale. Dark Mahogany-colored, bold, malty backbone with balanced hop bitterness.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours amber brown with a nice tan head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Caramel, sweet and nutty, toffee, chocolate and earthy hop scents.
Taste: Nutty, sweet malts – caramel and chocolate with an earthy hop bitterness in the finish.
Overall: A very drinkable Brown Ale, Hawai'i Nui Brewing Hapa Brown Ale is solid for the style.  Nicely balanced and weighing in at 5.9% ABV I’d certainly drink this one again.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
