Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Goose Island Brewing Company Pere
Jacques Belgian Ale. I had the pleasure
of visiting Good Island Brewpub when I was in Chicago a year ago and completely
enjoyed their offerings, particularly their Pere Jacques Belgian Ale.
From the Goose Island Brewing Company website: “Brewed
with loads of malt and Belgian yeast, Pere Jacques is a wonderfully fruity,
malty ale. Pere Jacques’ complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the
Belgian Dubbels enjoyed in the world’s finest beer bars. At the dining table
it’s the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Poured a dark amber with minimal head and nice
lacing.
Aroma: Sweet and strong with dark sugar, malt, hints of
cinnamon, Belgian yeast and dried fruit.
Taste: Sweet and complex with sweet caramel, dark fruits, hearty
biscuit and mild Belgian spice.
Overall: At 8% ABV Goose Island Brewing Company’s Pere
Jacques Belgian Ale is an excellent Belgian dubbel and one that I plan on
picking up regularly.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
