Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Green Flash Brewing Company
Barleywine Style Ale.
From the Green Flash Brewing Company website: “A four hour
boil intensifies the caramel malts and enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge.
The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors
layered throughout. Enjoy fresh today or lay it down and see how the flavors of
each vintage evolve.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a hazy reddish brown with a large tan head
and excellent lacing.
Aroma: Delicious blend of pine and citrus hops, brown sugar,
toffee and caramel malt.
Taste: Sweet and roasted malts with a brown sugar sweetness,
vanilla, toffee, citrus and pine hops. Balanced…it is hard to put down the
glass.
Overall: Rich, thick, smooth and incredibly drinkable, Green
Flash Brewing Company’s Barleywine Style Ale is incredible. This is a beer I will keep on hand and I plan
to cellar some of these. I put this 10.9% monster way up on my list of the best
barleywines ever.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
