Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is High Water Brewing Campfire Stout. I’ve become quite a fan of High Water Brewing and
when I heard about their Campfire Stout I knew I had to try it.
From the High Water Brewing website: “Our
newest full production release, available year round. This beer was a blast to
create and brew. We put 150 lbs. of Graham crackers in the mash, we used
chocolate malt and to top it off added a natural toasted marshmallow
flavor. Campfire Stout evokes fond memories of wilderness and camping
adventures. Notes of chocolate and graham cracker topped with a hint of
marshmallow will leave you wanting s’more. Like any campfire experience, this
beer is best shared with a warm circle of family and friends.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours black with a slight brown head and solid
lacing.
Aroma: Scented like a S’more – marshmallow, chocolate,
graham cracker, vanilla and a touch of smoke.
Taste: Roasted chocolate malt, burnt sugar, vanilla, smoke,
marshmallows, graham crackers and a little woodsy. Not over the top sweet and
pure liquid S’more heaven.
Overall: I don’t think of this beer as a novelty, but
something I’d drink paired with dessert or as a night cap.
High Water Brewing’s Campfire Stout is balanced well, tastes incredible
and provides the entire campfire S’mores goodness without the fire. At 7.3% ABV
I plan on keeping this stocked in my beer fridge at all times. I love good Stout and this one is GREAT!
Cheers!

Mark, good review! Quick and to the point. I'm from a home brew club in Reno and every time I'm in the bay I look for this beer. Where did you find it? I've scoured Bevmo's and Total Win's to no avail. We're in San Mateo for the holidays, any help?
ReplyDeleteHello Nick,
ReplyDeleteI live in the East Bay and I've found it at Drake's Barrel House (in San Leandro) and at Mission Liquors (in Fremont). It comes and goes so I usually purchase a few bombers when I see it. Great beer! Good success finding it!
