Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Commercial description: “Brewed for the 950th Anniversary of
the abbey, 950 Cuvée is a blonde ale "quadruple hopped" for added
spicy/grassiness with a dry, slightly bitter finish.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
golden with a soapy white head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Belgian
yeast, banana, clove, spice, fruity esters and lemon.
Taste: Begins
sweet and fruity, pear, apricot, honey with Belgian yeast, banana and clove
following close behind. Slight floral
and grassy hop bitterness in the finish.
Overall: Not as
hoppy as I was prepared for (quadruple hopped), but delicious nonetheless, Affligem
950 Cuvée Quadruple hopped Belgian Blond Ale is solid for those who enjoy
Belgian Pale Ales. At 6.8% ABV this
bottle was easy to polish off and enjoyable.
Probably not something I would gravitate toward again, but I’m a fan of Affligem
beers so I’ll always give their beers a shot.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
