Almanac Beer Company Dark Pumpkin Sour

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Almanac Beer Company Dark Pumpkin Sour - Ale Brewed With Pumpkins And Spices And Aged in Wine Barrels.

From the Almanac Beer Company website: “A rich and roasty dark sour ale brewed with organic heirloom pumpkins and spices and aged in used red wine barrels for a year. Serve this complex ale as a counterpoint to savory Thanksgiving staples and alongside Mom’s classic pumpkin pie.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a hazy dark reddish brown with a dark tan head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Sour and tart, dark roasted malts, dark fruits, roasted pumpkin and pumpkin spices.
Taste: Taste follows the nose, sour and tart, dark roasted malts, dark fruits, nutmeg, clove, allspice, cinnamon, a bit vinous and as it warms caramelized pumpkin emerges.
Overall: Interesting and something I’d buy more of, Almanac Beer Company Dark Pumpkin Sour is solid.  This 7% ABV offering is a unique combination of things I like and it worked (in my opinion). Certainly something to try for fans of sours and for those who want to try a tasty not-typical pumpkin beer.

Cheers!
