Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Weyerbacher Brewing Company
Imperial Pumpkin Ale.
From the Weyerbacher Brewing Company website: “Like
a pyramid for a pharaoh, we set out to make a bold monument for The King of the
Pumpkins!
This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is the mother of all pumpkin ales.
It is heartier, spicier, and more “caramelly” and “pumpkiny” than its faint
brethren! We have added lots of pumpkin along with cinnamon, nutmeg and a
touch of cardamom and clove giving this beer a spicy, full-bodied flavor. This
truly is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale.
Perfect finisher on a cool autumn night, or match it up with
a slice of pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream. It is available August through
November.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours
a deep, dark pumpkin caramel color with a large off-white head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Pumpkin,
pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg and clove), brown sugar, caramel and toasted
malts.
Taste: Flavor
follows the nose with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, bready and caramel
malts and brown sugar.
Overall: Flavorful
and creamy Weyerbacher Brewing Company Imperial Pumpkin Ale is delicious. This
8% ABV offering is sweet and highly drinkable. Would drink again in a
heartbeat.
Cheers!
Mark Harvey
