Howe Sound Brewing Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.

Tonight’s featured beer is Howe Sound Brewing Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale - Ale Brewed With Pumpkins And Spices.

From the Howe Sound Brewing website: “A high gravity pumpkin ale brewed with barley, fresh roasted pumpkin, hops, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, water and yeast, it is one of the local seasonal favorites.  This beer is produced in very limited quantities each fall as part of the John Mitchell series.”
Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a deep ruby orange color with a white head and nice lacing.
Aroma: Roasted pumpkin, anise, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, caramel malt with a molasses or brown sugar sweetness in the nose.
Taste: Very sweet, caramel and bready malts, brown sugar, roasted pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, anise and roasted pumpkin.
Overall: Spicy, sweet and well-balanced, Howe Sound Brewing Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale is tasty.  This 8% ABV offering isn’t boozy, but rather drinkable.  Not my favorite, but certainly something I’d repeat.

Cheers!

Mark Harvey
