Hello beer lovers and welcome to another edition of the
NorCal Beer Blog's brew review.
Tonight’s featured beer is Karl Strauss Brewing Company Red
Trolley Ale.
From the Karl Strauss Brewing Company website: “Red Trolley
Ale is a medium-bodied beer with heavyweight malts. We brew it with a half-ton
of caramelized malts for a rich copper color and toffee flavor. After adding
the perfect mix of hops for balance, we warm ferment the beer to bring out a
hint of dried raisins and currants. The complexity of flavors makes Red Trolley
Ale a hearty and truly enjoyable beer.
Back in the day, we brewed Red Trolley Ale as our first holiday beer. In the spirit of the season, we made like Santa in a fat suit and stuffed it full of caramel malts. So many folks got on board that we decided to brew it year round. Years later, Red Trolley Ale remains the perfect beer to make any occasion festive.”

Let’s get started!
Appearance: Pours a
reddish born with nearly no head and nearly zero lacing.
Aroma: Caramel, biscuit and chocolate malts…sweet with a
slight floral hop scent.
Taste: Caramel and biscuit malts, toffee, chocolate, raisin balanced
with a mild hop bitterness and a sweet finish.
Overall: A delicious Irish Red Ale, Karl Strauss Brewing
Company Red Trolley Ale is thoroughly enjoyable. At 5.8% ABV I can drink a few of these, but
it is a sweet beer so for some it might be too hard to session. I used the Karl Strauss Brewing Company Red
Trolley Ale corned beef and cabbage recipe this year and it turned out
fantastic.
Cheers!
